Methodology
We use progressive file size testing — starting with small chunks and scaling up to saturate your connection. This gives a more accurate maximum speed than a single fixed-size test. We run 12 ping measurements and discard outliers to get a reliable latency figure.
Why We Built Speedelly
Most internet speed tests require a heavy Flash plugin, a native app download, or a 5-second page load just to start measuring. That is ironic for a tool whose entire purpose is measuring speed.
Speedelly is a browser-native tool. There is nothing to install. The moment the page finishes loading — which should take under two seconds on a typical connection — your measurement can begin. We built the engine in vanilla JavaScript so it runs on every modern device: phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops alike.
We are based in Mumbai and noticed that most global speed test tools perform poorly on Indian connections because their test servers are overseas. Speedelly uses Cloudflare's global edge network, which has Points of Presence across India, giving you a result that reflects your real local experience.
How the Speed Test Works
When you start a test, Speedelly performs three phases in sequence.
Latency phase: We send 12 small requests to the nearest edge server and measure round-trip time for each. We discard the top and bottom outliers, then average the remaining samples to produce your ping reading. This multi-sample approach prevents a single packet-loss spike from distorting the result.
Download phase: We progressively fetch files — 100 KB, 1 MB, 10 MB, then 25 MB — and measure the transfer rate of each. The largest file your connection can saturate within the test window determines the reported speed. This progressive approach avoids over- or under-estimating on very fast or very slow connections.
Upload phase: We generate random data in memory and POST it to the edge server in increasing chunks, measuring the sustained transfer rate. No data from your real files is ever read or transmitted.
Privacy by Design
Speedelly operates no backend servers of its own. Your speed results never leave your browser — they are displayed on screen and optionally saved to your own device's local storage so you can review your history. We do not receive, log, sell, or share your test results or your IP address.
Speedelly is completely free and runs with no advertising and no analytics — no Google Analytics, no AdSense, no trackers of any kind. Every tool executes locally in your browser, and the only network requests you will ever see are the endpoints a tool is actively measuring.
