Datacenter Latency Tester

See your round-trip latency to major cloud regions worldwide. Use it to pick the datacenter closest to you (or your users) before you deploy.

๐ŸŒ Why region matters

Every 1,000ย km adds roughly 10ms of unavoidable round-trip latency (speed of light in fiber). Hosting near your users is the cheapest performance win there is.

๐Ÿ“ Reading the numbers

  • <30ms โ€” same metro / very close
  • 30โ€“100ms โ€” same continent
  • 100โ€“250ms โ€” one ocean away
  • >250ms โ€” across the globe

โš ๏ธ Note on accuracy

Browsers measure HTTPS round-trip, not raw ICMP ping, so values include TLS/connection overhead and run a little higher than ping. The relative ranking between regions is what matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this real ping or HTTP timing?

Browsers can't send raw ICMP ping packets for security reasons, so this measures HTTPS round-trip time to edge endpoints in each region. Absolute numbers run slightly higher than ping, but the ranking that tells you which region is closest is accurate.

How do I use it to choose a VPS region?

Run the test and pick the region with the lowest latency to you (for an admin box) or run it from where your users are. Most providers โ€” Hetzner, OVHcloud, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode โ€” publish a region in each of these areas.
